Yep, I did it. I quit my job.
But not in the way most people in the wedding industry imagine. I enjoy watching photographers grow their business into a place where they are able to leave their “day job” and work for themselves full time. It’s everyones dream!
But my story is a little different.
I quit my job last week. But only one of them.
I was working five jobs. And I was exhausted.
- I work full time for a health insurance company.
- Then I work part time on weekends running my own photography business.
- I second shoot for other local photographers.
- I’m a private photo editor for other photographers.
- And I worked at the barn, feeding horses and turning them out.
I was burning myself out before and spreading myself too thin. I’m a hustler when it comes to my work but I wasn’t getting enough sleep and I was too tired to do anything when I did have a break. So I made a really hard decision.
I turned in a notice at the barn, which was difficult in many ways, but mainly because I genuinely love working with the horses and getting to know each of their personalities! (Fun fact: I graduated from college was a BS in Equine Business!) It never seemed like it was a chore to do and even after a 10 hour work day, driving down the driveway was always calming. The horses would always nicker as I came around with their feed. And it was so much fun watching Zack learn about the barn life! He’s so sweet and helpful and always took as good of care for them as I did. We treated them all like they were our own with all of the love and scratches.
With this new change, I’ll be looking forward to having a little more time for myself and my hobbies but will also using this time to spread out my consistently heavy work load. I enjoy all of my jobs and love the work I get to do with them. I’ll obviously still get to stay in touch with the horses, since my sweet pony Twilight is at the barn. 🙂
Here’s a few of my favorite iPhone images over the past year working at the best barn!
